High-Pressure Grinding Rolls

High-Pressure Grinding Rolls (HPGR) are a highly efficient material grinding device. With their energy-saving and high-output features, they have gradually become one of the mainstream grinding devices. The core principle is “laminar crushing,” which differs from traditional impact or grinding methods. It applies high pressure to the material using two counter-rotating rolls (one fixed and the other movable), forming a “material layer” between the rolls. Under high pressure, the material undergoes internal stress fracture (rather than surface impact), ultimately achieving the crushing effect. Material enters the gap between the two rollers through the feed opening and is drawn into the roller gap by friction and compression forces. The high pressure applied by the rollers (typically reaching 50–300 MPa) can crush raw ore to particles smaller than 3 mm, which are then fed into a ball mill for further grinding. Compared to conventional grinding processes, this reduces energy consumption by approximately 40% and increases concentrate recovery rates by 5–10%.
